As the year comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on your health and make a vision for a new, healthier you. How was your health this past year? Was your body sending you messages to take action? Was it an SOS? Instead of making a health resolution this time around, start now to listen and embrace wholeness: body, mind, and spirit.
If you want to create better health, you first have to bring awareness to imbalanced areas. It’s easy for health to falter, especially during the holiday season. Tempting sweets, family drama, stressful travel, and lowered immune function can take a toll on an already compromised system. Now is the time to start dreaming of your healthiest self. For example, was your year filled with days of back pain that limited your exercise, put a few pounds on and made you downright ornery? What would life look like if you were able to let the pain go by REALLY getting down to the root cause? It can be challenging when you are stuck in chronic disease or disruption to see through the “fog of illness” holding you back. Well, it’s time to DREAM BIG to create your best self for 2018.
First, get out a notepad, iPhone or drawing pad and write down my favorite quote by Louise Hay: “I return my body to optimal health by giving it what it needs on every level.” Then, close your eyes and take a deep breath in and out. Visualize what optimal health looks like for you. Does that mean you have the energy and flexibility to play with your children? Sleeping through the night and waking up rested? Are you able to run a 5k or even a marathon? Don’t hold back on this part of the dream – you are an amazing creator!
Here are some key steps to create better health on all levels of being.
Your physical body knows how to heal itself at a cellular level, but it needs the right tools. If you feed it nutritious foods, give it exercise and adequate sleep, its job is easy. When the cells are functioning in a non-toxic atmosphere, they are able to work efficiently and heal the body. If the cells are living in toxic “sludge,” they aren’t able to detoxify the body on a daily basis. This leads to toxic accumulation and disease. Here are a few easy steps to get your physical body in alignment with your new vision.
1. Create your 2018 health prevention plan by adding wellness visits to the calendar and making them a priority.
2. Seek out a health practitioner to help you set achievable goals for the new year.
3. Health begins in the gut – plan a balanced diet full of healthy probiotic foods.
4 Practice intuitive eating – eat when you’re body needs the nutrients, not when you’re anxious, lonely, or bored. Connect with a physical trainer to find the best kind of exercise to suit your needs and nurture your body. Have your DNA analyzed to see which exercises your body responds to best. If you don’t make time for exercise, you will have to make time for illness.
5. Empower your own healing by learning more about what is ailing your body and be a willing participant in your own health plan. The more you learn, the easier it is to take care of your body.
6. Join Epione Clinic’s 21-day Purification Program on January 8, 2018 to jump-start your new routine!
I believe that we create every “dis-ease” in the body. We can choose to think thoughts that create a toxic mental atmosphere that contributes to disease, or we can choose to think healthy thoughts that create an atmosphere of wellness within our cells. Every cell responds to every thought we think and every word we speak. Are you living in a state of fear and anger that you will never be healthy? Here are a few ideas to help shift your emotional body.
Release any feelings of anger in regards to your health. Anger festers in the body and the cells are very aware of this toxicity and thought pattern. Think of 2018 as your cellular detox year!
Learn strategies and tools to release daily stress. This helps you make better choices under pressure, allowing you to engage your parasympathetic nervous system (resting and digesting).
Embrace and acknowledge fears you have regarding your health. This enables you to bring help and support into your healing vision.
Start a meditation practice to reduce stress. Studies have shown that meditation decreases stress and cellular aging by lengthening the telomeres (the endcaps of our DNA). Meditation quiets your mind, calms your senses, and opens your heart.
One of the most beautiful aspects of spirituality is that it can be experienced differently by everyone. For some, spirituality is about devotion to a religious faith. Others seek a more personal connection with their spiritual side by engaging in activities such as yoga, meditation, spending time in nature, or creative expression. How can you engage your spirituality more in 2018?
Get inspired! Who in your community inspires you to live a healthy life? Connect with them and others to help you achieve wholeness.
Create a health vision board. When I talk to patients about making vision boards, I encourage them to add pictures or visions of their health.
Take a spiritual retreat, whether at home or a retreat center; they are a great way to recharge. Retreats can help you realize the way you are living is not necessarily the way you have to live – you have the power to change.
How to Make Your Health Vision Last
Remember that wellness is not a fad but a lifestyle choice for optimal health. When starting a new health plan, start slowly and make changes that are long lasting and sustainable. Talk to your friends and family to help support your health vision and make it a reality. Find a health buddy or partner to hold you accountable.
