Aging Projects, Inc. is expanding to assist aging in place & needs your help!
According to James Kelly, President & CEO of Aging Projects, Inc., “We have seen an increase in requests from individuals looking to age in place in their own homes in Western North Carolina. This includes individuals planning for retirement, retirees, local and distant family caregivers, friends and faith-based organizations. This follows the aging phenomenon that is occurring on the local, state and national level.” According to the National Institute on Aging, “America’s population 65-and-over is expected to double over the next three decades and life expectancy is projected to increase.” Individuals are seeking solutions to allow them to age in place.
Aging Projects, Inc. – History: Initially, the online resource directory www.AgingProjectsInc.org was designed to assist individuals in the limited geographic area of Henderson County. It quickly became clear that many individuals outside of Henderson County had the same pressing questions. How can I age in place? What resources are available in my community to age in place? Do I have options to age in place? Aging Projects, Inc. is proud to announce that the online resource directory www.AgingProjectsInc.org will be expanded in the second quarter of 2017 to include Henderson, Buncombe, Transylvania, and Polk Counties. We hope to complete this expansion by May 1, 2017. Plans to expand www.AgingProjectsInc.org into Haywood and Madison Counties are under development.
How do I use the online resource directory? Visit www.AgingProjectsInc.org and your browser will open to the national page. Click on the county of your choice where services are needed. Henderson County is now live. Buncombe, Transylvania and Polk Counties will be in the second quarter of 2017. The most commonly needed services and providers whose services are available in a limited geographic area are listed. Categories include: advocacy/case management, basic needs, care, financial/insurance, health, housing, legal/elder law, memory, mental health, nutrition/food, physical/mobility, safety/security, social needs, transportation and more. There are subcategories based on needs, subsidized and unsubsidized services, etc. Providers in all categories complete an application, undergo screening, and are required to update their information at least every six months.
