Meet Our Advertisers: Mary Jane Grigsby of Adesso Interior Design

Mary Jane Grigsby is founder and owner of Adesso Interior Design, an award winning and widely published interior design firm based out of Fletcher, NC. Her credentials are many, including a Masters Degree in Interior Design, NCIDQ certification in the US and Canada, LEED accreditation by the US Green Building Council, and a Fellow of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). After 40 years of experience, she has honed her skills and elevated her expertise to a level of national acclaim.

One of the first things she will tell you is how much she loves living here! Having always wanted to live in the mountains, she describes her six years here as being her best so far. Having scaled back from a large staff and a “rat race” mentality to the slower mountain pace has been life cleansing. Even though when she arrived she had to essentially “start over”, since no one knew her name or reputation, she says she would do it over again in a heartbeat.

When asked what her specialty is, she answers “people”. Not spaces, or Residential Design et al, but people. As she puts it, all interior spaces, no matter their use, are all about the people who inhabit them. It is about how a space makes us feel, both emotionally and physically. It’s about how a space functions for its many uses, how it needs to be maintained, how it affects the indoor air that we breathe, how it ages and allows us to age in it, how it helps us nurture and be nurtured, and so much more. Take a home for example. Today our homes function as a place to sleep, to eat, to work, to exercise, to convalesce, to be entertained, etc. In other words, our homes are personal hotels, restaurants, offices, schools, gyms, spas, rehab centers, theaters and more. When it is looked at this way, it becomes apparent that there is so much more involved than just how a space looks. This speaks to Adesso Interior Design’s motto: “Interior Design is so much more than just a pretty face!”

Adesso Interior Design offers works in several fields of expertise: Residential Design including new construction, re-models, and “up-dating”; Hospitality including restaurants, bars, and hotels; Corporate including tenant build out for new spaces, expansion or downsizing; and Retail Store design. Mary Jane is lead designer for all projects, and has developed a local team of sub-contractors that help her accomplish what work might need to be done. She also pulls from a large manufacturer base of products from around the country that allows her to offer a wealth of choices and save her clients a lot of money. Budgets always matter.
