the loo review

In case this is your first loo review, let us fill you in: we decided to be a bit quirky (we like quirky) and instead of reviewing restaurants (as a number of people suggested), we decided to review restrooms (loos). This month we are responding to a number of suggestions to review the loo at Pyper's Place in the Montford section of Asheville. Now Pyper's Place, if you have not been, is full of quirky charm. Quirky charm and a life-sized zebra, no less. (Her name is Zena.) It is also one of our favorite hangouts for WNC WOMAN meetings.

So when several people suggested that Pyper's unisex loo be next on the list, we thought 'but of course'! The charm of their loo lies in its simplicity and offbeat design. The shape of the room is intriguing, the colors beautifully balanced with the print on the wall. Lost in contemplation of just why the door way placed halfway up the wall, we forgot the how-easily-does-the-toilet-paper-roll test.

I expect it is perhaps the ambiance of Pyper's Place itself, the consistent warm welcome of Michael, the manager, the excellent food and drink, all cast a sort of rosy glow over their loo.

Pyper's loo, along with the rest of Pyper's Place, can be found at 233 Montford Avenue in Asheville. They are open Monday-Saturday from 7 am to 11 pm and Sunday 10 am to 3 pm. 282-253-1100. Go review the loo for yourself . . . and tell Zena we said hey.
