i thought it was a doll

Flying through the airClothes, papers, toys, CD's
Flying, strewn everywhere.
The witness, who was driving behind
Saw the car flipped end over end.

I never dreamed human pain could be like this
Hurting so deeply and
relentlessly.
My mother said, You hadn't lived long enough to know.
I guess I know now.

It wasn't a doll.
It was my precious darling,
My baby granddaughter.
Another statistic.
A drunk driver.
Her mother.
My daughter.
